Volunteers are critical to the success of nonprofit and charitable organizations. In the Parry Sound area, these organizations provide services like healthcare, food assistance, environmental preservation, music and the arts, mental health support, child and youth development services, religious and faith-based support, and aid for population groups with specific needs.
According to Statistics Canada, in 2018, approximately 44% of Canadians aged 15 and over contributed their time to volunteer activities. That means that our community has THOUSANDS of heart-driven individuals looking to make a difference by giving their time to a nonprofit or charitable organization.
The idea for this platform came from the team at Sound Fundraising Strategies, led by Laurie de Fleuriot. It was inspired by a conversation Laurie had with a friend who told her, "I'm at a phase in life now where I'd like to be giving back to my community more, but I don't even know where to start! Maybe some sort of volunteer role... but how do I find the right thing?"
Through Laurie's work with local organizations like the WPSHC Foundation, Harvest Share, and the Chamber of Commerce, she knew there was a ton of open volunteer positions waiting to be filled by the right person.
What could be done to match these orgs with the well meaning people who want to give their time?
Volunteer Parry Sound is our answer to this dilemma.
Volunteerism is crucial for a strong, flourishing community. Volunteer Parry Sound is a central source for heart-driven community members to learn about, find, and apply for volunteer roles that align with their values.
