Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Role of the ‘Walk Leader’

The purpose of the Walk Leader is to greet participants, sign them in, provide Every Step Counts resource tool and share their love of walking.

The participants may look to the Walk Leader for guidance and support.

The Walk Leader is someone who:

  • Is passionate for walking
  • Is friendly and enthusiastic
  • Is welcoming
  • Is reliable and punctual

Duties and Responsibilities of the ‘Walk Leader’

Please ensure you are familiar with the Every Step Counts! resource and Mary St. Centre

Before a walk:

  • Arrive in good time for the walk
  • Welcome all walkers and identify any newcomers.
  • Ensure all participants have signed the sign-in sheet and first-timers
  • have completed the PAR-Q+ Form

Training and Insurance

All Walk Leader volunteers are expected to meet with Community Support staff to register as a volunteer, familiarize themselves with the Every Step Counts resource, familiarize themselves with Mary St. Centre ( AED location, phone, washrooms). Volunteers are covered by insurance through Community Support Services

Scheduling / Availability

It is expected that the Walk Leaders should be available to attend a minimum of one walk per month, for the period of Jan- Apr
